An online dietician degree is a fascinating and exciting choice if you are thinking about a new career or even a 2nd career choice if you’re out of work or looking for a more interesting workplace.
With all the recent talk on healthcare, the surging demand for professionals, our fast-food eating habits, and obesity problems, this career offers both the job security and the ability to greatly assist people. You would be recognized as an expert in nutrition habits and help patients adjust their food options accordingly – moving to healthier choices, and a healthier lifestyle. You can go all the way for an online degree or take nutritionist courses to get started.
But first you have to think about the various nutrition degree programs available and what type of dietician you want to become? There are online degree programs that can get you started while you are working your current job. You won’t have to waste your time on commute and traffic and that alone could give you the sanity you need to complete your online degree.
As you evaluate the many options available to you, also keep in minds that after a few years, you can set up your own private practice and become a consultant. You can then set your own hours, work as many or as few as you like, and enjoy the benefits of a higher salary.
So for example, current average salary is around $40K, which is decent giving the wonderful nature of the work. After you’ve acquired significant expertise, credentials and reputation, a private practice could bring you $125 to $250 an hour.
Do you like working with kids more – then consider becoming a pediatric dietician. So many kids are now spending hours in front of gaming consoles, eating junk food, and not getting the proper nutrition they need. Worse, the habits they are setting for themselves now will only cause more problems as they get older. You can help in reversing this disturbing trend.
If you are more research oriented, consider becoming a research dietician. This is for people who like working in clinical or university lab settings, where their work is focused on developing new solutions focused on prevention.

Back before online degree programs really started taking off and becoming the “in” thing, an illness forced me to drop out of college. Once I was feeling better, I started looking at my options and decided to change my course of study and get a degree through and online education program. i thought it was a great idea. I had more balance and flexibility in my life because I could go to class by taking just a few steps to my computer. This allowed me to return to school before I was even fully recuperated.
Unfortunately, I got way in over my head. The school did not offer grants or scholarships. Financial aid of any kind was not offered. So I was stuck making payments. At the time, this was okay with me. Finances were good, so I could afford it. However, life stepped in and circumstances had me missing payments on a regular basis. I finished my studies, but spent several years paying for a degree that I had rightly earned but was being held hostage by the school until my account was paid up. If only I had had some kind of option for financial aid. Fortunately, today’s online students do have those options.
Let the Government Finance Your Online Education
Students who want to get their education through an online degree program will be happy to know that many online schools today are not only accredited by the government, but are also eligible for federal financial aid. Simply fill out the FAFSA as you would for a conventional college and see what kind of financing you are approved for. The government will often give grants, depending on the cost of your education and your demonstration of financial need.
Your School May Have Something to Offer
Be sure to talk to someone in the admissions, financial aid or accounting department of your online school. They may offer grants and scholarships to students or may have a list of places that will. Be sure to explore this option thoroughly. It never hurts to ask.
Your Job
If you’re a working professional or looking to advance where you are working, seeking an online degree is a great option. It will allow you to continue working and go to school on your own time. Check with your company. Often, some employers offer tuition reimbursement or will finance you education, typically through money set aside for their own educational grant or scholarship program.
Area of Study and Other Free Funding Ideas
Look into grants and scholarships based on your particular area of study. Some of the funding parties will give money to students in online programs, as long as the school is accredited. The same goes for funding based on need, ethnicity, disability, talent, past grades and other things that might set you apart as a determined student serious about your education. There are many website out there such as School Grants that provide updates via Twitter on scholarships and free money available. Look at funding sources regularly and based on your specific needs and career choices and you will most likely find a source willing to fund online degree programs.
